9/11 remembrance events held around metro Detroit

Several local events will be taking place to remember the victims of 9/11 and the first responders.

Canton Township

Residents can attend Canton's first annual Do Good Expo at the Summit on the Park on the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Dozens of local nonprofit, volunteer and service-based organizations will be gathered on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at 46000 Summit Parkway. For more information, click here.

Clinton Township

Local emergency responders will be treated to a free meal on Tuesday courtesy of Max & Erma's, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. to celebrate National Emergency Responders Day. The promotion is open to all firefighters, paramedics and police officers. The restaurant is located at 17330 Hall Road in Partridge Creek.

Detroit

Loyola High School students will compile packages for veterans undergoing chemotherapy at the John Dingell VA Hospital in Detroit and write letters of support, sew neck pillows for comfort, provide snacks, lotion and more to distract and occupy them as they undergo treatment.

The Detroit Police Department and Detroit Fire Department will host the annual 9/11 Memorial Service beginning at 11 a.m. in Campus Martius.

Farmington

The 17th annual Patriot Day Ceremony will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Walter Sundquist Pavilion at Riley Park in downtown Farmington. The ceremony will honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 citizens and first responders who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. 

Harper Woods

AMVETS Post 57 in Harper Woods will have a ceremony in front of the 9/11 memorial on their property located at Allard and I-94.

Highland Park

Students of George Washington Carver Academy, with help from My Brother's Keeper and My Sister's Keeper of Highland Park, will fill, decorate and donate 150 care packages for veterans at the Detroit Rescue Mission Transitional housing facility in Highland Park and Veterans Hospital in Detroit. The event is part of a national project largely funded by Youth Service America. 

Rochester Hills

CJ Mahoney's Sports Bar and Grille will treat first responders, service members and veterans to half off the menu in order to recognize and thank them for their service.
